Welcome to our new website. The full history of The Transport Golfing Society and the various branches around the country can be found by clicking on the "History of TGS" button to the right. By no means the oldest golf society in the UK, but the camaraderie and like minded interest has endured over time. With so many former companies being merged or disbanded Transport still is the life blood for the day to day running of the country. Founded in 1930 by Harry England, Chairman of the West Riding Automobile Company Limited of Wakefield, as a socially agreeable meeting place for those engaged in the passenger road transport industry and invited commercial interests. The wearing of the society tie at meetings was a must and failure not only produced a fine, but required the immediate purchase of another tie! The History of the Society Tie; "The White Stripe as White Flags Out The Red Stripe as Red Flags In The Green Background for Greens and Fairways And the Black Stripe for the Time We arrived Home!" Tie information provided by one of our Life Members who joined in 1953 and reported what the tie was originally designed to show. |
